F.A.Q

Frequently Asked Questions:

My son/daughter has never raced before, is this race series for them?

Absolutely. This series is designed to encourage first-time riders, and also more experienced youth cyclists.

Can my son daughter compete on a mountain bike?

As our races are specifically designed for road racing, this series allows only road bikes.

Will bikes be available for my child at the events?

We are working towards this in the future. For this year, however, bikes will be available only at the Victoria race for the track portion of the event. A road bike will still be required for the rest of the event weekend.

My son/daughter has a road race bike, but not clipless pedals. Is this OK?

Yes. Clipless pedals are not required.

Are there gear restrictions for the different age categories?

The usual Cycling BC youth gear restrictions will apply:

U13                       –          45 x16
U 15/17/19       –          52x 16

What equipment do I need for the races?

You will require a road bike and helmet.  Cycling appropriate clothing, including gloves, is encouraged.

What do I receive for my entry fee?

A chance to learn from the best coaches in British Columbia, a well-organized event to test yourself against likeminded cycling enthusiasts and win some great prizes.

Are signed waivers required?

Yes. We will be working hard to make these events as safe as possible for all participants. However, there are inherent risks in bike riding and these kinds of bike events. Participants and their parents must acknowledge those risks and accept that Axel Merckx Youth Development Foundation (and those supporting the event) cannot be held responsible for those risks of participation.
